The author, Zena M. with her family

Many people go away for the holidays making them miss out on social events. This may also be another thing that adds stress.

Kids who have divorced parents normally have to split their celebrations. This often complicates things. I asked about ten kids how the spent it with their parents and most said that they split it evenly. Tom D’Agustino, a freshman said “For Christmas I go to my aunt’s house and I spend Christmas Eve and Christmas morning with my dad, brother, and cousins. Then I go back to my dads and open presents. I then spend Christmas night with my mom, brother, sister and step dad.”

Students who have siblings or friends in college may get excited because they are coming home. This may cause them to lose focus and get behind on schoolwork. Excitement in for the holidays in general may cause them to get off track in school. This is very unfortunate because the material that we are taught now will most likely be on midterms.

Social events for the holidays and new years can also be a very hectic time because everyone is making plans and planning parties and what not.

Putting up a Christmas tree and decorations is supposed to be a fun experience however for many it is extremely frenzied or competitive and tends to cause many fights. Also getting a menorah may not go so smoothly. These are just a few examples of decoration mishaps.

Even though holiday vacation is supposed to spread joy sometimes people have trouble getting into the spirit.
